How can fertilization regimes and durations shape earthworm gut microbiota in a long-term field experiment?

The positive roles of earthworms on soil functionality has been extensively documented. capacity the earthworm gut microbiota decomposition and nutrient cycling under long-term fertilization in field conditions rarely studied. Here, we report structural, taxonomic, functional responses Eisenia foetida Pheretima guillelmi to different regimes durations using 16S rRNA gene-based Illumina sequencing high-throughput quantitative PCR techniques. Our results revealed that core microbiota, especially fermentative bacteria were mainly sourced from soil, but strongly stimulated with species-specificity, potential benefits for host health. compositions altered by duration being more influential than regimes. Moreover, combination organic inorganic longer resulted a higher richness connectivity also their related carbon (C), nitrogen, phosphorus cycling, particularly labile C decomposition, denitrification, phosphate mobilization. We found increased abundance pathogenic P. gut. This study demonstrates understanding can provide insights into how agricultural practices potentially alter ecosystem functions through interactions between microbiotas.
